Lizzie’s Lists of Helpful How-To’s: How to get motivated

More from Lizzie's Lists

It’s been so long my friends, but alas with the new year I bring new advice weekly. Since New Years has just previously passed, many people are hoping to start the year off fresh. People have goals in mind and an idea of how they would like 2015 to go. But in order to complete goals you have to be motivated which can be a hard thing to do. If you struggle with having the inspiration to accomplish more, then read on for some tips.

1. Write out your goals. Having a physical copy that you can see and touch can make your goal seem more realistic and obtainable. It also makes you feel as though you’re one step closer to achievement.

2. Tell friends and family about what you would like to accomplish. When you have people to support you and hold you accountable it can make the journey seem easier.

3. Look up tips. This will help you figure out how to go about working towards your goals.

4. Talk to people who have the same goals in mind. You will help and push each other towards your goal. Talking about it also helps to motivate and working together helps even more.

5. Set up rewards for yourself. After each milestone you hit treat yourself. This way you’ll have more to look forward and at the same time it also breaks down your goals into manageable chunks.

6. Put up pictures or notes that remind you of what you’re trying to achieve. This could be next to your desk, your bed, your fridge, or even your bathroom mirror. Try to place them in the places you see the most throughout the day.

7. Think about the outcome when you’re struggling to stay with it. I’m a runner and I know that what gets me through miles is thinking about how I’ll feel after I’m finished. It makes the run seem more bearable when I keep in mind that rewarding feeling that comes along with the finish.

8. Listen to happy and encouraging music. For a good classic I recommend “We are the Champions” by Queen.

9. If you can, make an investment in whatever you hope to do. Just one example is if you’re trying to get fit; buy a gym membership, some weights or new workout clothes. Knowing that you have put in money towards it will make you more motivated to not waste what you’ve spent.

10. Stay away from negative thoughts. When you find yourself second-guessing, steer yourself into thinking about the possible positive outcomes. As cheesy as it sounds, don’t think about what could go wrong but rather what could go right.

In the end it all comes down to you. You have the power to be in charge of your thoughts and you have the power to accomplish what you want. Not everyone has that luxury so use it wisely and positively. Now go get ‘em tiger.
