Making the perfect deep-dish apple pie in seven steps

A staff member's approach on a traditional Thanksgiving dessert recipe

The holiday season is a time where families come together and celebrate with feasts of traditional foods. A good dessert for your Thanksgiving meal is a must. This apple pie recipe is an easy, traditional dessert you could serve for your family.

To make two pies you will need:

  • 14 apples
  • one cup of sugar
  • one-third cup of flour
  • one teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • one half teaspoon of ground allspice
  • one-fourth teaspoon of salt
  • three tablespoons of butter

This recipe takes about two-and-a-half hours to make. Here are the steps:

Start by preheating the oven to 375 degrees.

After all the peeling the apple, use an apple core remover to cut the apple into slices.

Peel all 14 apples. This step in the process is tedious, so using tools to assist in the peeling is helpful. It’s beneficial to use an apple core remover and an apple cutter stencil to speed the process along.

Next, add the flour, sugar, cinnamon, cinnamon, allspice and salt to the apples. Make sure to mix these spices into the apples until they are all evenly covered.

Now, prepare the pie crust. Using store-bought pie crust will speed along the process of making the pie and deliver results as delicious as homemade crust. Grease a pie plate and spread the crust evenly inside and along its edges.

Place the crust into the pie plate, and then pour the coated apples into the dish.

Pour the apples into the plate. Place the second pie crust on top of the apples and tuck the edges into the tin. Poke holes in the top of the pie crust, brush the pie with milk and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top.

Place your pies in the oven to cook for 25-30 minutes or until golden. Placing aluminum foil around the outside edges of the pies will ensure the middle of the pies will cook and the pies themselves won’t burn.

When the center of the pies are golden-brown, take them out of the oven and share them with your family to wrap up your Thanksgiving meal.

Overall, this recipe is very easy to make and delivers delicious results. Although peeling all the apples can be time-consuming, the end product is worth the work.
