Girls tennis competed at regionals Thursday, Oct. 11. The meet was held at the school and lasted throughout the day. Senior Stella Platt and her doubles partner senior Marissa Hoelting qualified for state but for others this meet was the end of their season.
This being senior Audri Brizendine’s first time at regionals her mentality leading up to the match was different from those of other matches.
“I was a little bit nervous, just because this is the first time I’ve ever gone to regionals, and I didn’t really know what to expect, but my mentality was just to leave it all out there, because it’s the last time I was playing,” Brizendine said.
Senior Stella Platt shares her emotions after qualifying for state with her teammate in doubles.
“I was pretty excited because I qualified for state with my partner and I think going into state I’m feeling pretty good,” Platt said.
Similarly Brizendine had some good takeaways from her regional outcome.
“My last match was against the number one seed so it was really cool to play her. I lost but it was a good season and I’m happy with how it ended.”
Since Platt’s season is not over yet, she will begin her process for getting ready for state.
“[To prepare for state,] we will definitely work hard at practice and get a lot of reps in and a lot of match play and point opportunities.” Platt said “We will focus on specific skills and making sure that all of our skills are ready to go.”
Brizendine reflects on the end of her season and tennis experience as a whole.
“Overall I think I grew a lot this season and was really resilient and I learned a lot from my coaches and all the friendships from all four years have been so great and I’m going to miss it.”
