Mill Valley football beats Basehor-Linwood, 38-0
Mill Valley football dominates, with a shutout against Basehor-Linwood last Friday, Sept. 20.
Despite the game being postponed a night due to lightning, the Mill Valley football team brings their winning streak to three on Friday Sept. 20, with a shutout over the Basehor-Linwood High School Bobcats.
The Jaguars capitalized on many Basehor-Linwood turnovers, which resulted in a 38-point shutout.
The Mill Valley defense held Basehor-Linwood from a first down in the beginning plays of the game, which lead to an early punt by the Bobcats. The Jaguars received the ball at the 41-yard line.
After many Mill Valley carries, junior wide receiver Zach Hanna had a three-yard pass reception for a touchdown, putting the Jaguars ahead early, 6-0. The Jaguars went for a two point conversion, and the run by junior quarterback Ty Bruce was good, making the score 8-0, Jaguars, with 6:02 left in the first quarter.
The second Mill Valley touchdown run consisted of a one-handed catch by Hanna, and a 30-yard run by senior running back Nick Wilson in which he broke multiple tackles. After the extra point was missed by senior kicker Connor Mills the score was 14-0, Jaguars with 6:57 left in the first half.
Only minutes later, the Jaguar defense stepped up and caused a Bobcat turnover on downs.
Mill Valley started with the ball at the Bobcat 43-yard line; after many big runs, Wilson carried the ball 12 yards putting the ball inches from the touchdown. Senior linebacker Micah Clarke finished the drive with a one-yard touchdown run. Mills’ extra point was good, bringing the Jaguars lead to 21-0 with 2:30 remaining in the first half.
Another Basehor-Linwood turnover led to a final Mill Valley touchdown before halftime. After a fumble recovery by the Jaguars, Bruce ran the ball 15 yards for a touchdown. Mills’ extra point was good, giving the Jaguars a 28-0 lead with less than a minute remaining in the first half.
In the last few minutes of the third quarter, the Jaguars put another seven points on the board. After many small carries by Wilson, Clarke had a one yard run for his second touchdown of the night. Mills made the extra point putting the score at 35-0 with 1:55 remaining in the third quarter.
Mill Valley finished the night with a 42-yard field goal by Mills, making the final score of the night 38-0, Jaguars, with 4:52 left in the game.
Mill Valley’s next game is at home against Tonganoxie this Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
