New science teacher loves the community at Mill Valley
Kelly Prickett is looking forward to her time at Mill Valley and loves working with students
Mill Valley News: What is your background?
Kelly Prickett: Before I became a teacher at Mill Valley, I worked in Bonner Springs at the middle school and I taught eighth grade science. And then before that, I worked in parks and recreation including the National Park Service with the Everglades.
MVN: What college did you attend and what did you major in?
KP: I went to K-State and I majored in park management and conservation. And then after that, I went to UMKC and got my master’s in education.
MVN: What are your first impressions of Mill Valley?
KP: I feel like this is a really great community. All the students are super awesome and really nice. And all the staff has been really inviting and welcoming.
MVN: Why did you want to get into education and teaching?
KP: First off, I really love working with students and kids overall and then I did a lot of education in the parks and I really liked it.
MVN: Why did you choose to apply here?
KP: I have heard so many great things about Mill Valley and the De Soto [school] district and I really wanted to try it out and join a community that’s just really awesome.
MVN: What do you do in your free time?
KP: I’ve got three kiddos at home so I spend a lot of time doing stuff with the family. I’ve got a two-year-old, a five-year-old and then a 12-year-old.
MVN: Is there anything else that you want people to know about you?
KP: I’m really excited to be here and try out something new and I feel like there are just a lot of really great opportunities here at Mill Valley so I’m excited.
