Blog: Not a one-hit wonder

With chart-topping summer singles, singer-songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen is back with a new album, Kiss. This album includes more dance hits and catchy melodies that easily get stuck in your head. Not only does Kiss have numerous dance hits, it is filled with big feature artists, like Justin Bieber and Owl City.

Before “Call Me Maybe,” Jepsen was actually on Canadian Star, which is Canada form of American Idol, where she came in third place then released a freshman album Tug of War. But both of her albums have completely different sounds; Tug of War has more of the Colbie Caillat flow, and Kiss has the sound of early Britney Spears. No matter what, Jepsen is full of pop.

The album seemed like it was the same dance song after dance song. Personally I enjoy artists who are able to show different styles of music throughout their album; but Jepsen just did the opposite of that. Her lyrics followed the same catchy chorus of many pop songs, but I do not believe Jepsen has the capability of branching out from pop.

Kiss is an album for the Justin Bieber and Kelly Clarkson fans, for those who enjoy songs that they can have fun with. The beat makes you want to dance, and the lyrics get stuck in your head though the day.
