This year’s prom brought students back in time with a Roaring 20s theme at a brand new venue on Saturday, April 12. With its vintage charm, Uptown Theatre gave prom a refresh that many students and staff appreciated.
Senior Joey Nightingale, who was crowned prom queen, noted how the compact design of the venue made the night more social.
“Everything was on the same floor this year, so it felt easier to walk around- and more crowded, which made it fun,” Nightingale said.
While Senior Sawyer Clark missed the multi-level layout of last year’s prom at The Madrid, he felt the shift to Uptown had its perks.
“Parking was a lot easier this year,” Clark said. “It was much closer and there weren’t people walking super far distances in uncomfortable outfits, which was nice.”
Junior class sponsor Angie DalBello explained that the decision behind the venue change was not only the convenience, but the aesthetic of the building.
“The Uptown is about 100 years old, which worked well with our Roaring Twenties prom theme this year,” said Dalbello. “The dance floor has plenty of room, and the marquee on the exterior is really beautiful at night.”
The small venue added to Nightingale’s experience of winning prom queen, giving a more personal aspect.
“Unexpectedly winning is already a fun experience as it is,” Nightingale said. “But seeing everyone crowded right in front of me cheering and having fun made it all the more exciting.”
Overall, the change of venue added to the magic of the night for students and sponsors alike. DalBello expressed how grateful she was to experience this year’s prom.
“We were very pleased with how prom turned out this year in every way,” DalBello said. “The weather was lovely, and the students had fun- I have no complaints.”
