Q&A with junior Eli Sheehan
Junior Eli Sheehan and Jag Chorale travel to Irish concert
Where did Jag Chorale travel this weekend?
[On Sunday, March 9] we went to an Irish concert at a church in Kansas. The concert [featured] the Kansas City Chorale. It’s a big concert that they only have once a year. It lasted about four hours. They had really good Irish music. They had a guy from Ireland actually come over and sing with them; he was a really cool guy. I got to meet him, so that was really nice. Why did Jag Chorale choose to go to this field trip?
[Choir instructor Sheree] Stoppel put the option out for us if we wanted to go, and we wrote on the board if we wanted to go or not. We had a lot of people cancel, but we had about six to seven people go on this field trip. We got to go for free because one of [Stoppel’s] kids was in the actual choir itself. What did you think of the concert?
The concert overall was really well done. The [venue] was a really good place so the sound would echo and it would make it a better concert; probably one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I’d have to say that ranking from one to ten, one being really bad and ten being really good, it was probably a nine or ten. It was probably one of my favorites and I’d love to see them again because they did a really great job.
What did you learn from the concert?
One thing they did that was really interesting was they would move the girls to the outside so their sound would project more, like surround sound. We learned that that helps [the sound] echo more, so that’s kind of a fun thing to learn as a musician. You can learn pitches better; you learn new songs that are always fun to do. When you go to a concert, you always learn something new.
