Flix for You: Quite a tale to be told

“Dolphin Tale” is the story about a dolphin and a boy with an unbreakable bond

Throughout my movie-watching over the years, I’ve noticed that the movies based on true stories jump out to me more and mean more to me. Personally, they’re more sentimental and mean more to the audience watching it.

The movie “Dolphin Tale” is about Sawyer, a boy who finds a beached dolphin whose tail is caught in a crab trap. He calls the marine hospital and they come in to rescue the dolphin. They try to help the dolphin to send it back into the ocean, but that plan would later be stopped due to the damage on the dolphin’s tail. The marine doctors later had to amputate the tail. While all of this was happening, Sawyer would come to visit the dolphin, who was later named Winter.

Since a dolphin’s tail is so essential for survival and swimming, Winter had to find other ways to get around. Instead of moving her tail up and down, Winter was moving it side to side. This was bad on her spine. After many tries, there was a prosthetic tail made for her so she could swim again.

As aforementioned, this movie is based on a true story. Winter is still alive and well and living in the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater, Florida. With her unique condition, she’s been able to inspire so many people similar to her. That is what I love about this movie — it shows that being different isn’t something to be ashamed of, as well as persevering through difficult times in life.

Overall, “Dolphin Tale” is a fantastic family movie or for a night in. It has everything you could want: comedy, love and friendship.

See you next time!
