The Quiz Bowl team practices for its meet on Friday, Nov 9.

The varsity Quiz Bowl team placed third at Olathe Northwest on Thursday, Nov. 7. The team placed second in their pool, leading them into the semi-final round, which was ultimately their last round of the night.

Junior Jack Earlenbaugh said that several junior varsity team members had to fill empty spots in the competition. Even though there were many younger members at the meet, he was pleased with the team’s overall performance.

“We had strong support from junior varsity members who stepped in,” Earlenbaugh said. “Overall, we did really well because we had participation from younger grade levels.”

Along with Earlenbaugh, junior Madeline Grube helped lead the team, being the only other varsity member at the meet. Grube found that the preparation for the meet was easy because the questions were over subjects the students learned in class.

“We did a really good job just being on top of some questions and getting points really easily,” Grube said. “It always helps because it’s all stuff we learn in class, so if we go over notes that help.”

Earlenbaugh said he enjoyed the meet because it was different from other varsity competitions.

“It was interesting being a team captain for once,” Earlenbaugh said. “We did well even though we had a couple slip ups, [but we] made up for them in [specific] categories.”
