Reality TV teaches teens bad life lessons

Reality TV gives teens unrealistic expectations and destroys work ethic

“OMG, when I am older I want be just like Kim Kardashian.” I have heard this from many teenage girls and that is not OK. When you are young you should have bigger aspirations than wanting to be like a celebrity when you are older. Yes, Kim is very pretty, but she lives a very rare life that many people will not have in their future. Reality TV teaches teenagers how not to act and many bad lessons about life.

Reality stars like those on The Real Housewives pay a lot of money on their appearance by constantly getting their makeup done, getting plastic surgery and changing their looks in other ways. This makes teenage girls feel like they have to change their appearance in order to get a lot of attention and power like the Kardashians do. It is not good to feel that way, instead, you should be happy and feel beautiful without changing how you look.

Reality TV also teaches teens that you can be a millionaire without working hard. That is not true. If you want to be successful in life you have to work hard. You aren’t just handed success in life, you have to earn it.

It also teaches kids that every situation needs to be filled with drama and fighting, but that is not true at all. You should go through life without having a fight every single week. The outbursts that happen every single episode of the show is teaching the viewers that it is normal to fight with your loved ones that often but that is not a healthy relationship.

The next time you are flipping through channels and you land on a reality show, think about watching a different show that has more meaning than the trashy reality shows. Make sure you pick a show that will be healthy for you to watch.
