The Robotics team gathered in the senior café on Saturday, Jan. 7 to find out what the game for the season will be. After much anticipation, the team watched the NASA broadcast that revealed the specifics of the game.
The game is called Rebound Rumble, where the robot has to shoot as many basketballs in a hoop in two minutes and 15 seconds. as possible in a certain amount of time. Teams can get more points by shooting into higher hoops.
To start planning and building, the team meets every day after school from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Sophomore Joe Gunter is eager to start the building.
“I’m really enthusiastic about the upcoming season,” Gunter said. “It’s going to be very crucial to have a strong shooter and speed will also be very important.”
Sophomore Andrew Hecht thinks the season will be strenuous.
“The word that comes to mind [for the season] is psychotic, that’s the only way to describe it,” Hecht said. “Once night, I got home at 9 p.m. and I had to stay up until 11 p.m. doing homework.”
Gunter predicts it’s going to be a challenging, but fun season.
“The game is much more difficult than the previous years and it introduces a load of new challenges,” Gunter said. “It’s going to be difficult but rewarding.”
The first competition of the season is Thursday, March 1 at the Hale Arena.
