Robotics Team 1810 took part in the Cow Town ThrowDown Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 3. The competition reused the robot and Rebound Rumble event type from last season.
Rebound Rumble is played by pitting two alliances, each made up of three robots, against each other. Each alliance attempts to outscore the other by either shooting basketballs into goals placed at different heights or by having their robots balance on a bridge at the end of the 2:15 minute round.
According to junior Tyler Hinnen, while the team did well with a record of 4-3-1, the real benefit of the competition was the experience it gave the robotics team.
“It gave the younger students the chance to see how it will be like at an actual regional [competition],” Hinnen said. “It also gave a chance for the drivers to get some actual practice in.”
Robotics sponsor Mary Beth Mattingly agrees with Hinnen.
“I think it went very well. New [members] really saw what robotics is about, what a regional is like,” Mattingly said. “And one student, a freshman, came up to me and said, ‘I wasn’t sure about robotics before, if I belonged, but now I know that it is for me.’”
