The Robotics teams competed in and hosted the Heartland Regional on March 20-22.
The teams made up of students from both Mill Valley and DeSoto have worked most of the year to prepare for the competition which requires students to build a robot to complete a specified task.
Team 9316 received the innovation control award and Team 1810 was awarded the creativity award and placed second in the competition.
Overall, the teams earned three trophies and a Blue Banner for their outstanding performance.
The school hosted 36 teams mostly from the Midwest and even two from Mexico. According to Robotics advisor Neil McLeod this allowed students an opportunity to see what Robotics programs across the state and country are doing.
“Being able to see how the other teams approach the same set of challenges,” McLeod said. “Because everybody has their own unique way of completing the same tasks.”
McLeod emphasized how getting to compete at home allowed for more supporters to show up.
“The coolest thing for me is to get to see all of the hometown crowd be able to come in and see what they did, to be able to cheer on the team, because we definitely have the loudest section of cheers during competition,” McLeod said.
