The Scholars Bowl team remains undefeated throughout their intense season. With this steady success, the team has high expectations for future competitions.
Senior Carter Tollman shares how the group ensures victory.
“During practices, we compete against each other using past questions from past years,” Tollman said. “Sometimes, you don’t always need background information, it’s more about memorizing the question and answer.”
Though the team performs well, junior Will Schieber explains how they face challenges.
“Confidence is key, which is easy to reinforce because our group is pretty small,” Schieber said. “We always provide each other with study resources and encourage practicing as much as possible.”
Overall, junior Ian Weatherman says that he is satisfied with the direction the team has taken over the years.
“When Mrs. Keith arrived and took over the team my sophomore year, it became an actual team,” Weatherman said. “Compared to my freshman and sophomore year, where I only podiumed a few times, this year has been extremely successful.”
According to Schieber, team bonding is a crucial part of their accomplishments.
“At the end of the day, everyone in the club is there because they genuinely enjoy it,” Schieber said. “Our practices are always friendly and casual, it’s just a good environment.”
Tollman shares his hopes for the future of the team.
“Next month we’re competing at regionals,” Tollman says. “Even though there are high stakes, we’re hoping to qualify for state.”
Until then, the group plans to stay consistent with their practices, getting closer as time goes on.
“It’s super awesome to see what we turned into. Everyone’s energy and enthusiasm is really encouraging as we head towards state,” Weatherman said.
