"See You at the Pole" unites students

Between 30 and 40 students gathered around the flagpole, joined hands, and bowed their heads in prayer for their school and fellow students at the annual “See You at the Pole” event, beginning at around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

“See You at the Pole” was started at a high school in Texas about 20 years ago when students gathered around the flag pole outside their school to pray. Occurring on the last Wednesday of every September, it has become a national and international event.

Senior Club 121 president Alyssa Young was instrumental in promoting “See You at the Pole” at the school and enjoys the opportunities it gives students.

“It gives people the opportunity to get with people of the same faith,” Young said. “You don’t even have to be Christian to go. It’s a chance for [the students] to the start the day on a great note.”

Pastor Ken Kendall, who participated as a guest speaker for the event, agrees.

“It gives people the opportunity to express their faith…to come together with a purpose,” Kendall said. “It continues to strengthen their faith in God when they see other students have the same desire.”
