Seniority ruled out at the 2024 annual Powderpuff game with the senior class defeating the juniors 30-12. After the homecoming parade Wednesday, Sept. 18, the festivities relocated to the Mill Valley football field, where seniors dominated from start to finish.
Senior Clayton Sondgeroth, one of the senior team coaches expresses his pride in the outcome of the game.
“It was an unexpected victory. I couldn’t be more proud of these girls,” Sondgeroth said. “They wanted it more than the other team which was evident.”
Sondgeroth details how the seniors prepared well ahead of kickoff for their victory.
“We were practicing day in and day out,” he said. “We came to practice prepared, on time, and ready to work.”
Junior Callaway Clifton takes the loss well and gives credit to the seniors’ performance.
“The competition was tough. They were quick and hard to block.” Clifton said.
The senior team worked hard the entire game, everyone had an incredible performance. Senior Lauren Welch was proud of her part in her team’s victory.
“I would give my performance a nine out of ten,” Welch said.
Clifton agrees the seniors dominated the game, but that didn’t take away from the fun on the field.
“The powderpuff experience is so much fun. It’s a lot of work, but it turns out awesome and amazing in the end.” Clifton said.
The Powderpuff game was a successful night. Memories were made for a lot of people, including Sondgeroth as a coach.
“It just opened my eyes,” Sondgeroth said.”Coaching is something that’s not about the athletics. It’s about getting to the person and not coaching them up as a player but as a person.”
