What school activities are you engaged in?

I am in quiz bowl, debate, forensics, and I was in tennis two years ago.

How did you get involved in quiz bowl?

I was in “Knowledge Masters” in elementary school. It’s fairly similar to quiz bowl, so it seemed like a natural progression once I got to high school.

What is quiz bowl?

Quiz bowl is when you take academic questions from any category you can imagine, and it’s a competition to prove who has more academic knowledge.

How often does the quiz bowl have competitions, and can you describe them?

It’s a five on five round where you can buzz in and answer the question before the other team, and you get points. Most competition are in the format of a round-robin tournament. Once the season starts in late October, we have a meet once or twice a week.

What teachers sponsor quiz bowl?

Mrs. Mattingly. Sometimes if we need other teachers to step in and take us to a tournament, Mrs. Shelly will help out.

How does someone make varsity in Quiz Bowl?

If you’ve been in for longer than two years, you’re automatically on varsity everyone is automatically in JV when they join, there’s no novice league. We have about seven people on the varsity team, but we always have a handful of JV people come along to every tournament.

Why should people join quiz bowl?

Quiz bowl is fun, really focused on being a team, and helps with increasing general knowledge, not focused on one specific category. The club is always looking for more people to join, so if you want to increase your knowledge, join in.
