The Silver Stars hosted their annual clinic for girls ranging from kindergarten through 8th grade on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Aspiring dancers ranging from kindergarten through 8th grade participated in the Silver Stars Dance clinic on Saturday, Feb. 15. The annual clinic, lasting from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., was taught by dance team members. Following the clinic, the girls performed in the main gymnasium during halftime of the boys basketball game against Olathe Northwest.

“[The clinic is] a fundraiser for the dance team,” junior Isabelle Acree said. “For kindergarten through third grade, we teach them the basics. We don’t teach them any technique. For the fourth grade and up, we teach them any technique that they would need to be on the team if they were wanting to try out later.”

Along with raising money for the team, the main purpose of the clinic was to initiate involvement with the community.

“[The clinic] gets the Silver Stars’ name out to people who don’t necessarily know who they are, and it’s good to get the little kids experience, especially the middle schoolers,” Acree said.

Acree said the most enjoyable part of the experience was the simplicity of the clinic, as well as having the opportunity to teach the girls.

“The clinic is a good fundraiser for us. It’s fun and it’s easy for the parents and kids,” Acree said. “[I liked] being with all the little kids and getting to see all their fun personalities.”
