Singing and Sweets has been a choir department annual tradition for years and it continued Thursday, March 27.
Choir president senior Blake Gray, who sang Vittoria, mio core by Giacomo Carissimi, explains the effort it took put on the concert this year.
“We talked to Dieckhoff, and we had to plan out, [how] to get the sweets. And we gave them what they call business experience, and so we were able to pay them, and we got their cookies,” Gray said.
Accoridng to Gray the student turnout for the even has ebbed and flowed since the event began.
“The turnout was pretty good. Student-wise, it wasn’t super good, but also, that event is more for the parents so they can watch their students sing, and it’s more of a community where the student singing can feel comfortable performing,” Gray said.
Junior Ella Kaemmer, who sang Caro Mio Ben by Tommaso Giordani, explains how she felt about the overall turnout of the event.
“There are more parents and grandparents. Not a whole lot of students, but all the students sat in the front,” Kaemmer said.
Although there wasn’t a ton of student turnout, the participants still enjoyed the event. Sophomore Lucy Suman, who sang Panis Angelicus by Saint Thomas Aquinas and This Little Rose by William Roy, explains what her favorite part of the event was.
“I liked just hearing everybody else sing because there’s a lot of people in choir that I’ve never heard sing solo,” Suman said. “I liked hearing everyone’s voice, especially the seniors that are going to be gone next year.”
Kaemmer explains her favorite part of the event and how she felt singing her solo.
“My favorite part was being with all the other people who were doing solos, and the camaraderie was nice,” Kaemmer said. “I knew if I messed up, it was gonna be okay.”
