After an investigation at a party over spring break, 16 students between the ages of 15-18, at least some being from Mill Valley, are currently facing charges for Minor in Possession, or MIP, for underage possession of alcohol. The party occurred in the 21500 block of West 62nd Street in Shawnee, KS. Police said that the homeowner was not present.
According to school resource officer John Midiros, police were sent to the party after receiving a loud noise complaint. When they arrived, they viewed some of the students participating in illegal activity but did not receive an answer when they went to the door. Based on what they had witnessed, the officers were able to obtain a search warrant and investigate what was going on.
Any person involved above the age of 18 would have received court dates, Midiros said, while a report would have been filed with the district attorney juvenile office for those under 18, who would then issue a court date.
Midiros also said that this could negatively affect the ability of the students involved to participate in school activities because of breaking the code of conduct.
“That’s what the whole code of conduct is,” Midiros said. “It’s all saying inside and outside you will represent the program in a positive way.”
