Without conceding a single run, the Lady Jags celebrated a 6-0 victory over Olathe East at home. Sophomore Liv Peery, who hit two runs in during the first inning, initiated the game’s high energy.
According to Peery, many of her other teammates had star performances as well.
“The game had many highlights, to start [sophomore] Emma Hadley pitched a perfect game, she pitched nine strikeouts and zero walks. I also created two runs batted in,” Peery said. “[sophomore] Makenah Brown also hit amazing during the game, she went 3 for 4.”
In addition to strong individual performances, sophomore Emma Hadley emphasized the importance of in game communication and adaptability.
“Communicating with each other after every at-bat and making adjustments in game has helped us overcome challenges,” Hadley said. “We’ve already seen how that helps us in tough situations, and I think it’s going to continue making a difference.”
The game also provides momentum going into the rest of the season, Hadley shared.
“This season has already been a lot of fun because of all my friends, but I think this game was a great start to make the season better,” Hadley said. “I think it will serve as good motivation going into some of the other games later in the season.”
Additionally, freshman McKenna O’Leary explains Olathe East’s playing style serves as good practice for hitting in other games.
“Their pitching was a lot different from who we played the week before, it was impressive, solid pitching,” O’Leary said. “So it was impactful to adjust to their pitching style, I think learning to do this earlier on will impact the season, it teaches us to stay on our toes.”
Peery emphasized how this game will help the team achieve its goal: winning a regional game.
“Everyone on the team is hoping to win a regional game and make it to state, and we are working to improve a little bit each practice and game,” Peery said. “This game has helped us see how we can perform the rest of the season, and pushes us a step closer to our goal.”
