Sophomore Kenzie Johnson brings new ideas to the Student Council roundtable

Johnson's hardwork and determination supplies a new beginning for the future of the student council

Although leadership means different things to different people, sophomore Kenzie Johnson exemplifies her leadership qualities every day through serving as her class president.

With so much on her plate, it can be difficult to handle a busy schedule. However, Johnson does it all with a positive mindset: “a leader means having the best attitude at all times because sometimes you have situations that aren’t the best.”

Additionally, Johnson strives to go above and beyond as her class leader in order to get the most out of it as she can,

“Student council is really determined by how much work you want to put in,” Johnson said. “It’s just a matter of ‘how much are you willing to do?’ [For example], my friend [sophomore] Logan Koester and I started [an event called] Cramming for Cocoa to go the extra mile.”

But her leadership qualities do not stop at StuCo, Johnson is also an active leader in her faith.

“I just switched to a new church,” Johnson said. “I’ve been able to introduce it to my sister and my cousin.I like that they look to me for guidance [in] helping them establish a base.”.

With her positive attitude and constant desire to be a better version of herself, Johnson appreciates the idea of her being seen as a leader with the actions she does.

“My favorite part about being seen as a leader is being someone that people feel comfortable going to,” Johnson said. “It’s reassuring when people come to me and need a question answered.”

Throughout StuCo, Johnson’s above-and-beyond mentality does not go unnoticed, StuCo sponsor Erica Matyak follows along closely with Kenzie as her mentor for upcoming years.

“Kenzie takes the initiative,” Matyak said. “There’s a big difference between students wanting to see things happen and students actually making it happen.”
