This year’s annual Homecoming dance with the theme “Mama Mia, Dancing Queen” was one like no other. The dance floor was full of sparkling lights and twirling bodies as the DJ played hit after hit.

Sophomore Paxton Grunewald, who spent the night dancing on the dance floor, expressed his thoughts on this year’s theme and music selection.

“I thought the theme was super creative and the music was really fun to dance to.” Grunewald said.

It was Freshman Jon Riley’s first Homecoming and he thought the ambiance of the dance was really special and fun. He also points out his favorite part of the night.

“The dance was really fun, my favorite part was dancing and hanging out with my friends all night,” Riley said.

New this year, students were treated with free Crumbl Cookie upon entry and enjoyed the cookies while taking a break from dancing. StuCo senior representative Reese Miller shared how this idea was created along with the theme.

“We started this summer by having everyone come to our first meeting with some ideas of what our theme could be. We had ideas like Tangled, Jungle, Mamma Mia, etc.” Miller said. “We then all voted on which one we liked best and decided that Mamma Mia would be the best fit for this year and we would have the cookies.”

Additionally, Homecoming candidates were announced at the dance for the first time in Mill Valley history and were honored by cheers from the crowd on the dance floor. Grunewald describes how it felt.

“The atmosphere was very exciting and positive when the candidates’ names were called,” Grunewald said.
