Student Council hosted an Open Mic Night at Ten and Two Coffee Tuesday, Dec. 10. This event allowed students to perform whatever they want in front of an audience.
Student Body Vice President Emmie Chezem, who planned the event, enjoys that it’s a space where all people can come together and enjoy a night of music and other performances.
“[Open Mic Night] is a very inclusive event, and I like how people who don’t normally have the opportunity to showcase their talent [are able to],” Chezem said.
Junior StuCo representative Gavin Hurt sang at Open Mic Night and enjoyed the atmosphere of the audience there.
“I think everyone was excited, everyone was laughing and having fun,” Hurt said. “We had some great people step up to the stage and sing their hearts out.”
Chezem agreed that the event had a good audience.
“I feel like [Open Mic Night] is always pretty high energy just because there’s a big crowd and a lot going on,” Chezem said. “It makes it less awkward when the crowds are involved with the people performing.”
Similarly, Freshman Leah Tucker enjoyed Open Mic Night and hopes to go to the upcoming events.
“I want to go to the next [Open Mic Night] they host because it was fun and I liked hanging out with everyone,” Tucker said. “The energy of the night was really fun because a lot of people did really creative stuff.”
Chezem said there are plans of a second Open Mic Night in the spring, which will be the first time StuCo hosts two in one year. She explains why students who go shouldn’t be afraid of performing.
“Don’t overthink [performing],” Chezem said. “No one is going to think anything bad about you [if you perform] so I would just say go for it.”
