With the end of the first semester approaching rapidly, many students have to start preparing for finals. The biggest part of the preparation is studying. Many students find success studying in different locations, and can really affect how they perform on finals.
Different locations provide different things to help students study. This can vary from simple things like food to actual materials like printers, books or even just a comfortable environment.
The local Starbucks provides students with chairs and tables to study, along with food and drink. Sophomore Alex Powell studies there and benefits from the spot.
“I like the background noise and it smells really good in there,” Powell said. “I feel like the smell of coffee helps me [focus].”
Another reason Powell chose Starbucks to study is its convenience and close proximity to the school.
“It’s [usually] not too busy and it’s pretty comfortable,” Powell said. “Also, I like the change in scenery.”
Another coffee shop students use to study is Prayer Box, junior Ian Weatherman prefers Prayer Box over other coffee shops when it comes to studying.
“Over the summer I did a lot of work on my summer assignments at Prayer Box, a coffee shop close to my house,” Weatherman said. “ It has a lot more places to sit than Starbucks and it has a really cozy vibe that I love, as well as great food”
Weatherman also appreciates the location of the coffee shop.
“It’s super convenient to get because it’s super close to my house and the coffee is great,” Weatherman said. “I think that environment was great for studying with friends.”
Another close study spot that is popular among students is the Johnson County Library. The library provides students with computers, printers and endless study materials they can utilize for schoolwork.
Sophomore Paxton Grunewald utilizes the library for his homework.
“I study at the library because it’s close by and it’s quiet,” Grunewald said. “You can use the study rooms to be secluded from others.”
However, some students just enjoy
studying at home. Junior Tanav Sood finds that being alone is the most beneficial.
“I’m by myself in my room, and I just find it hard to study when there are other people around me,” Sood said.
The environment Sood has created in his room helps him study as well. The layout helps him stay focused and pay attention.
“Good lighting honestly [helps], my desk is right next to a window, so getting some natural light in there helps me think,” Sood said.
