Take the time to see that cameras are a positive change

The moment the security cameras were installed, students in the school became furious. They proposed yelling the f-word and flipping the cameras off. They said they were proving a point, but what point were they trying to prove?

Students don’t have much of a reason to be upset. Having the security cameras in the school are a great idea. No more worrying about not solving the criminal activity in the school. If someone gets into a fight, someone vandalizes, or sells drugs; it is all right there for the camera to see. So, finally proof is provided to verify if someone is either innocent or guilty. So students want to be mad about this?

Cameras provide students and teachers full protection, so when a criminal action does occur all the answers are right there captured by the camera. It makes perfect since, to be able to solve any and all the criminal activities in the school. If the students know they are being watched then they are most likely not to do anything against the rules, it keeps them in line at school and on school grounds.

Most of the students still dislike the idea even if they know it is to help provide protection. They say it is a privacy invasion, or a waste of money. Getting used to feeling like someone is watching you all the time does take awhile. But according to Surveillance in Schools: Safety vs. Personal Privacy, there is no federal law that governs video surveillance. Cameras can be used in places like hallways, cafeterias, libraries, and parking lots, although this is still controversial. The cameras did cost a lot of money, and according to Surveillance in Schools: Safety vs. Personal Privacy, they could cost up to $30,000 or more. But can it be proven that something is ever a waste of money, especially if it involves safety?

Security cameras are for a good purpose. Students need to stop being so quick to think something is bad or wrong just because it is new or they are not used to it. Changes happen, and the cameras are to make a good change.
