Football team falls to Blue Valley Northwest

The Jaguars start the season with two losses

Senior Evan Applegate gets fired up before the football game vs. Blue Valley Northwest. The team lost 34-26.

The football team lost to Blue Valley Northwest, 36-24, on Thursday, Sept. 11.

The Jaguars had the first possession of the game, but within the first four minutes, the Huskies had two interceptions, both leading to touchdowns.

“[The] offense needs to step up,” senior running back Isaiah Young said. “[We need to focus on] ball security [and] reading our keys right; [fixing] little mistakes.”

With 7:36 remaining in the first quarter, the Jaguars trailed 14-0. Two minutes later, after another score by the Huskies, junior quarterback Logan Koch ran the ball in for a touchdown, followed by the point after by junior kicker Andrew Hicks, bringing the score to 21-7.

The Huskies scored again, seconds before the end of the first half, Koch managed to run in another touchdown, making the score 27-14.

With 0:08 left in the third quarter, Hicks brought the score to 27-17 with a field goal. In the fourth quarter BVNorthwest scored once again. After, Koch scored another touchdown followed by a safety, ending the game with a score of 34-26.

Because the team is no longer facing 4A schools and few 5A schools, Young said that despite starting off the season with two losses, he enjoys playing better teams.

“I like [playing bigger teams] better because we finally have competition. We can finally see what we can do against good teams,” Young said. “We need to work harder [and] fix our mistakes, [and] start winning our games.”

The team will play at Derby on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
