Tobacco-free policy now in effect

The school district officially adopted a tobacco-free campus policy at the school board meeting Monday, Aug. 16. School campuses are now not only tobacco free for students, but also for staff members and visitors. Smoking will be prohibited at any time on campus, including at school activities and athletic events.

The ban is related to the Clean Air Act passed in March which prohibits smoking in public statewide.

“With this legislation, our state takes the necessary steps to save Kansas lives by reducing cancer, tobacco-related diseases and teen smoking,” First Lady of Kansas Stacy Parkinson said of the ban.

The district will join 72 other districts in the state have already adopted the smoke free policy.
