Top 10 social media blunders to avoid

Do’s and don’ts to keep us all sane online

Social media is often more frustrating than it is entertaining. For the sake of sanity on Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat, follow this checklist of do’s and don’ts.

1. Don’t participate in Selfie Sunday or post an #mcm of the same person every week. Your loyal followers won’t die if the sun goes down one Sunday without your selfie gracing Instagram.

2. Avoid negative subtweets. It’s not classy, and it really is a bad way to take out your frustration with someone.

3. Learn the difference between your/you’re, to/too/two, there/their/they’re, and other commonly misused words. It’s really not that difficult.

4. Realize that “could of” is not a phrase. It’s “could have,” people.

5. Don’t tweet about something on TV unless you really are watching it. You’re not fooling us by tweeting about your love for March Madness if you haven’t talked about basketball for the entirety of the season. We all know you don’t actually watch the games.

6. Use punctuation. Sentences that run-on with absolutely no regard for periods or commas make you look flat-out lazy.

7. Don’t throwback a picture on Instagram from something that happened less than one month ago. It’s not a throwback.

8. Don’t retweet compliments directed at you. It only makes you look conceited.

9. Don’t excessively use hashtags on Instagram. We can all see that you’re a girl; there’s no need to hashtag it.

10. Develop more than one Snapchat facial expression. Just do it.
