The volleyball team lost to Blue Valley West and subsquently defeated Shawnee Mission West during the team’s triangular on Thursday, Sept. 4. The team won the first game against Blue Valley West 25-23, lost the second 19-25 and eventually lost the match in the final game with a score of 25-27. The girls went on to beat Shawnee Mission West in two out of three games with scores of 20-25, 25-21 and 25-22.
Sophomore middle hitter Rachel Rule said the team showed improvement from its loss to Aquinas earlier in the week.
“We played better in [tonight’s] matches than we did last match,” Rule said. “We had more energy.”
A major change to the volleyball program this season was the hiring of new head coach, Debbie Fay. According to junior middle hitter Alicia Pickett, Fay excels in her strategies and instruction.
“Our new coach has brought some great philosophy and ideas,” Pickett said.
Despite a victory, Pickett said the team still has room for growth.
“We definitely need to improve on forced errors,” Pickett said.
Rule said she was proud of the girls’ effort throughout the matches.
“I thought we played pretty well,” Rule said. “We struggled in a few areas, but we did pretty good overall.”
