The volleyball team defeated Tonganoxie on Tuesday, Sept. 22, winning each set with scores of 25-16, 25-8 and 25-15, respectively.

Junior outside hitter Morgan Thomas said the win demonstrated the progress the team has made this season.

“We worked a lot harder and played as a team,” Thomas said. “I feel accomplished overall.”

According to junior defensive specialist Emma Mantel, part of the team’s success may be due to the implementation of setting goals prior to each match to motivate players.

“We set goals before each game,” Mantel said. “It motivates us to work towards our goal and keep something in mind throughout the game that we wanted to do.”

Mantel attributed the win to the team’s cooperation and ability to recognize Tonganoxie’s shortcomings.

“We played together and picked on their weak spots,” Thomas said. “We’re going to continue to practice harder and work on making less errors for the next match.”

The victory boosted morale among players as it showed the improvement of the team due to its dedication.

“We feel good when we know we worked hard and had a good outcome,” Mantel said.

The volleyball team will play its next match against Washburn Rural on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Washburn Rural.
