The volleyball team bested Olathe Northwest 3-0 Tuesday, Oct. 1. The match also marked Youth Night where the team invites Junior Jags to spend the night with them.
The Jags won the sets 25-14, 25-17 and 25-18, respectively. Senior Saida Jacobs thought the team displayed a great overall performance.
“I think the team as a whole played very well collectively,” Jacobs said. “We communicated very well and in general played good volleyball.”
According to head coach Kylie Corneliusen, the team’s consistency throughout the match led to the win.
“I think we performed really well,” Corneliusen said. “We stayed consistent through all three sets and limited our errors. That was the key to our success.”
For Youth Night, Junior Jags also spent time with the team before and during the game in order to learn and have fun. Jacobs enjoyed teaching the kids about volleyball in high school.
“I enjoyed having the kids on the bench with us so we can talk to them and they can get a good view into what high school volleyball is,” Jacobs said.
For Corneliusen, seeing the youth learn from the team made it a memorable experience for everyone.
“Youth Night is always one of my favorite nights as a coach,” Corneliusen said. “I love getting the youth involved. We had over 50 kids sign up this year, which is incredible. We had two Junior Jags sit with us on the bench. It’s so fun for me to see them interact with the older girls. I have got such great feedback from the parents and their experience with us on the bench.
With the win, the team improved to 15-2 on the season and still remains undefeated in Sunflower league play.
Corneliusen looks forward to seeing the team improve to their full potential.
“I am looking forward to seeing the girls compete against some tougher competition,” Corneliusen said. “I think the challenge will better our team for the future. They are a great group of kids with lots of potential. I am excited.”
