Tuesday, Sept. 20, the volleyball team defeated Shawnee Mission North and Olathe West in the Shawnee Mission West Triangular adjusting the team’s record to 10-1, ranking them first in the league. The girls won in two matches against SMN and again in two matches against OW.

Junior Kaitlyn Burke shares the things she thought her team did well during the matches.

“I think we did really well particularly against Olathe West [by] bringing a lot of energy from the beginning and establishing a solid lead before they did,” Burke said. “The game was slower against Shawnee Mission North, so I think we did a good job taking care of our side and still playing good volleyball despite what the other side was doing.”

Junior Addison Bailey reflects on what the team could have done differently during the matches.

“We could improve on our communication on the court and our energy as well,” Bailey said. “When the energy and communication in the gym is high everyone plays better and it makes the slower games more enjoyable.”

Burke finds that the mindset that the team has before they start playing helps them during the game.

“I think our mindset going into both games was to take care of what we could on our side the best we could,” Burke said. “Minimizing serving errors was something we had worked on in practice, and we hoped to transfer that into the game.”
