Sometimes scheduling print deadlines is difficult. Unfortunately, we can’t always plan around weeks like finals week in order to print eight issues a year.
Sarah speaking: Ah! I’m so sorry staff. I’m not exactly sure how this snuck past me but some part of me didn’t realize this deadline fell on finals week. Monday, Dec. 12 is our long work night which means our staff will be at school until 9 p.m. and everyone has two finals on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Regardless of this, however, we must send issue four to press tomorrow night. Although this is a bit of a stressful deadline, it is also a chance for many staff members to prove themselves to Jill and I this week. If staff members can still commit themselves to quality work in the midst of the madness, we will be forever grateful and impressed. In the real world cycle of news, stories do not always fall on convenient dates. I just hope our staff can make it through the next day with our sanity intact. I have a feeling there might be a few tears tomorrow. Don’t worry staff, it will be over soon!
Jill speaking: Every single year this happens, the Monday night worknight on finals week. It is much more stressful for me this year because my hardest final is first thing Tuesday morning, and I’m sure many staff members can say the same. Hopefully all of our staff utilized their time over the weekend to study for their earlier finals, and I hope to be out of the school earlier than 9 p.m. for the sake of everyone else’s studying time, and my own sanity. I began to look through all of the pages on Friday afternoon and it doesn’t look like we are running too behind, plus I’m sure everyone will be even more motivated to get their stuff done considering they have studying to do. Finals week is just a rough week in general, and one of the many wonderful perks to being on newspaper staff is that the newspaper schedule makes it even more difficult than it already is.
The lesson of the week this week is that there is no time for learning life lessons when there’s studying to be done.
