With the new semester comes the possibility to re-evaluate what we have accomplished and what we could still improve upon as a staff. New ideas will be put into place including daily design ideas and style tips to keep everyone motivated and inspired to continue with the second half of the year.
Sarah speaking:
Even though it is second semester and Jill and I are both ready to graduate, we are also both motivated to continue to push our staff this second semester. Now that everyone is used to the way things work on staff, it is time to refine our paper and website. Jill and I made a list of things we want to try to improve upon this semester and we are excited to act on what we can do better. I know this year our paper will only be better off this semester. Second semester is also a time to start to train future leaders on staff and for staff members to really prove their abilities. There are a lot of strong seniors on staff this year, but also many younger staff members who will make great leaders in the future. I’m excited to see our staff continue to improve and to see certain staff members shine.
Jill speaking:
Even though we accomplished a lot as a staff last semester, there are still ideas that Sarah and I had over the summer that we haven’t had the chance to put into effect yet. Hopefully this new semester will offer us that opportunity. I would also like to see this semester be a little bit more easy going than last semester, considering the amount of changes that were being made last semester and the effort that had to go into those changes. Now that it’s a new semester and I have taken some things off of my plate that were eating up my time first semester, I hope to be much more hands on with the staff especially regarding designs. I want to be much more interactive with the staff members to make sure that they are learning everything they will need for next year when Sarah and I aren’t here. I’m really looking forward to this semester and I think we can finish our last year of newspaper off with four successful issues.
Lesson of the week:
1. Being halfway done only allows us the opportunity to continue to make the paper better.
Lesson 18 of being and editor-in-chief: Check.
