The Women’s Empowerment Club is doing a donation drive for the Safe Home Domestic Violence Shelter through Feb. 12.
The Safe Home Domestic Violence Shelter supports people who have been subjected to domestic violence. They provide shelter, counseling and legal support for those individuals.
The drive is collecting items like toilet paper, paper towels, shower curtains, hair brushes, disposable plates/bowls and gift cards.
The co-presidents of the Women’s Empowerment Club, junior Tori Brown and junior Steven Butler, collaborated with the club to make this drive possible.
“We are doing this drive because our goal is to empower people and women,” Brown said. “The importance of this drive is that we are giving back to the community [and helping] women and children get what they need so they can feel safe again.”
In addition to collecting items, the drive also brings awareness to the shelter.
“Women’s empowerment is doing this drive not only to raise items for Safe Home but to spread the word about Safe Home as an organization,” Butler said. “They do a lot of good things for a lot of people, and we are passionate about using this platform as something to not only gain donations for them but also spread the word for people to volunteer or donate to them in the future.”
The club is taking donations before school until Wednesday, Feb. 12. On top of that, donations to the drive can count for the National Honor Society community service hours.
If you are interested in joining the Women’s Empowerment Club, the club meets every other Monday after school in C-201.
