Varsity wrestling defeated Ottawa High School 55-18 and Basehor-Linwood High School 38-25  in a double dual serving as their senior night on Thursday, Feb 5.

Wresting in the 138 class, senior Logan Marx brought continuous wins during his matches.

“I felt that I did [well], there were some pretty easy matches,” Marx said. “I just went out there and didn’t take anything for granted.”

Sophomore Alec Derritt who wrestled in the 285 class, ended up with an unexpected opponent from a different weight class.

“During the second match I got a [wrestler from the] 220, which actually isn’t my weight class since I’m a heavyweight, and my whole strategy was changed,” Derritt said. “I went out there and wrestled hard and came out with a win.”

Marx believed that his wins benefited him and will help him for league and state.

“I wrestled cleaner than I have throughout the season,” Marx said. “It was just another stepping stone towards state.”

With league approaching, Marx is already predicting how he will do.

“I feel like it’ll go well and I can get first,” Marx said. “That’s what I’m shooting for.”

Derritt also is preparing for the coming league meet.

“I think I’ll do okay [during league] there are a few opponents that are bigger and stronger than me,” Derritt said. “With technique I should be able to pull out a victory.”

League is Saturday, Feb. 14 at Tonganoxie High School beginning at 9 a.m.
