Wrestling team defeats Shawnee Heights 55-20 at Senior Night meet
Senior Jake Gramke describes his emotions during Senior Night
The wrestling team took to the mat and defeated Shawnee Heights 55-20 at Senior Night, the team’s only home meet, on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
The stands in the gymnasium were flooded and all of the six seniors were walked out of the Jaguar head by their parents. Seniors on the team include Jake Gramke, Landon Scott, Tyler Dickman, Regan Wright, Jake Ellis and CJ Beran.
Gramke said his last time wrestling on the Jaguar mat felt sentimental.
“[I felt very] emotional. It was emotional for all the seniors knowing it was our last time wrestling at home,” Gramke said.
The amount of spectators at the meet brought Gramke satisfaction.
“[Seeing everyone] was awesome,” Gramke said. “It was all an adrenaline rush. [There] was probably more [people]…than just a regular meet.”
Gramke said his connection with his teammates is an aspect of Jaguar wrestling he will never forget.
“[I’ll miss] the family atmosphere. The wrestling team is like a big family,” Gramke said. “We don’t let anyone fall through the cracks. We just keep everyone in a big circle.”
