Wrestling team places first at league tournament
The wrestling team took first at the Kaw Valley League tournament on Saturday Feb. 15th at Piper High School.
“I feel like we did very well,” junior Sebastian Uriate said. “We had 11 people in the finals and a lot of people have been stepping up and scoring a lot of points for us.”
Senior Tyler Dickman agreed.
“We worked hard all week,” Dickman said. “It showed on Saturday but moving forward we need to prepare better every day.”
Mill Valley has dominated the KVL tournament in the past.
Uriate says the team came into the tournament prepared.
“I was very excited, as was the rest of the team,” Uriate said. “We had been working really hard this season and we want to show everyone what this team is all about and bring the title back to Mill Valley.”
After just recovering from an injury, Dickman said that the tournament would be good preparation for more post-season success.
“Going into the meet I didn’t have a whole lot of emotion,” Dickman said. “We were supposed to win league so I looked at it as practice for the upcoming weeks.”
The final results were:
Mill Valley; first
Basehor Linwood; second
Lansing; third
Turner; fourth
Bonner Springs; fifth
Tonganoxie; sixth
Piper; seventh
Bishop Ward; eighth
